Rethinking electrical 'waste'

We work to give electrical items a second-life through our refurbishment & reuse process

Refurbish & Reuse

Tech-Takeback was founded upon circular economy thinking. We wanted to change the way consumers think about technology and electricals to extend their usable life.

Maybe you upgraded your phone? Or needed a higher spec computer for work? That's your decision to make - but that doesn't mean that your old items can't be put to good use!

At Tech-Takeback, our team of experts work to refurbish all donated items to their best usable condition. This includes installing a new operating system and can also involve hardware upgrades when appropriate.

Our network of reuse partners then help to find a new home for the refurbished items - helping to extend the life of these products and supporting communities. We've used this process to supply charities, school children and digitally-excluded individuals with much needed tech that would have otherwise been destined for destruction and landfill.

Did you know...

Over 60% of WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment) disposed of at Household Waste Recycling Centres could be suitable for reuse after minor repairs.

A Circular Economy for Electricals

'Circular Economy' might sound like a scary phrase, but it's actually very simple...

Our current way of life is incredibly wasteful - we take natural resources from the ground, turn them into a product, use that product for a little while and throw it away. We call this a 'Linear Economy' because the start and end points never meet.
We Take. We Make. We Waste.

But it doesn't have to be that way. A 'closed-loop system', or Circular Economy works to keep products and materials in use for as long as possible. This helps to spread out the environmental impact of a product and reduce the need to create new products.

When a product reaches its true end-of-life, we can then break it down into separate materials and components for recycling.

Extending the life of your tech is one of the most important things you can do for the environment!

What's in your Tech?

The extraction of raw materials from the Earth can be incredibly damaging to the environment - here's just some of the elements that go into an iPhone 6 16GB
Aluminium (31.1g)
Carbon (19.9g)
Oxygen (18.7g)
Iron (18.6g)
Silicon (8.1g)
Copper (7.8g)
Cobalt (6.6g)
Hydrogen (5.5g)
Chrome (4.9g)
Nickel (2.7g)
